Smoothies to Stay On Track

This last weekend, I got to fly down to Pittsburgh to hang out with one of my best friends, Elizabeth, and her lovely family (with two of the cutest fur-babies you ever did see!) We had a blast seeing some of the city, going to a couple of their favorite restaurants, drinking, and just living our best lives.

Best friends help you indulge and stay on track in one weekend. It's all about #balance.

Now I knew heading down to visit them for the weekend, that I would be making some... questionable... choices for my nutrition. (Ehem, the store Peace Love and Little Donuts was visited and loved.) But knowing that ahead of time, I set myself up for success and brought some travel packets of my favorite protein powder to make some girly smoothies and have at least a healthy start to my day of fun.

This post was sponsored by UNJURY Protein, but all opinions are my own.

I brought the UNJURY Strawberry Sorbet and Classic Chocolate protein powders for a delicious option while away from my routine. I have used UNJURY since my pre-op diet for my bariatric surgery in 2015, as it was the protein powder that my hospital and nutritionist recommended. Not only do they have some of the best tasting protein powders that dissolve easily and don't leave the protein aftertaste in your mouth, but I love how they prioritize only using the best quality ingredients.

Elizabeth and I went shopping for some fresh ingredients to make some truly delicious, girly smoothies to encompass our awesome weekend. I stuck with a lower calorie Strawberry and Banana classic, while she opted for a more filling (and decadent!) Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana smoothie.

Kayla's Strawberry Banana Smoothie

1 packet of UNJURY Strawberry Sorbet Protein Powder

1 ripe banana

4 large strawberries*

3/4 cup milk (We used 1% milk, but use what sounds good to you! For a dairy free option, coconut milk or almond milk would be delicious in this.)

3-5 ice cubes*

Blend, blend, blend!

Garnish your cup to feel a little extra and insta-worthy.

The banana will make your smoothie much creamier and with so much natural sweetness. If you want to add a serving of veggies, this smoothie hides the taste of a handful of spinach remarkably well!

*We used 2 frozen strawberries that we had in our freezer for smoothie preps, and 2 fresh ones to up the strawberry flavor. If you use frozen strawberries, feel free to use a little less ice.

Stats: 2 servings / 148 cal / 22g carbs / 1g fat, 14g protein in each serving

Elizabeth's Decadent Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie

1 packet of UNJURY Classic Chocolate Protein Powder

1 ripe banana

1 tbsp peanut butter

3/4 cup milk (This would be delicious with any nut milk alternatives!)

4-6 ice cubes**

Blend, blend, blend!

Garnish your cup with melted peanut butter, banana, and a sprinkle of Oreo crumbs if you are feeling like being truly delicious!

**This recipe uses much less cold/watery ingredients, so to make it blend a bit thinner, up your ice by a couple of cubes.

Stats (this includes our indulgent garnish choices!):

2 servings / 256 cal / 26g carbs / 10g fat / 18g protein

What are some smoothie combinations that you love? I am excited to try new variations with the other UNJURY flavors soon!
